Growth & Development Monitoring

Every child develops at their own pace, but tracking growth and developmental milestones is essential for identifying potential concerns early. Dr Nel provides thorough growth and development monitoring, plotting measurements on standardised growth charts, assessing motor, language, cognitive, and social-emotional milestones, and providing guidance when a child is not meeting expected targets. Early identification and intervention can make a significant difference in outcomes for children with developmental delays.

Common Questions About Growth & Development Monitoring

Children grow at different rates, and genetic factors play a significant role. However, if your child's growth is consistently below the expected range or crossing percentile lines downward, an evaluation is warranted. Dr Nel will assess whether there is a medical cause and recommend appropriate steps.
Most children say their first words around 12 months and combine two words by age 2. However, there is a wide range of normal. If your child has no words by 18 months or no two-word phrases by 24 months, a speech and language assessment is recommended.
Developmental screening tools are standardised questionnaires or checklists (such as the ASQ-3 or Denver II) that help identify children who may be at risk for developmental delay. They are quick, reliable, and form part of every well-child visit.
